Walter Brueggemann (1933–2025) was one of the most influential Old Testament scholars of his generation, serving as William Marcellus McPheeters Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary. An ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, he wrote dozens of books on the Hebrew Scriptures, including Sabbath as Resistance and Interrupting Silence.
